This work took place when Young People in Focus (YPF) was callled the Trust for the Study of Adolescence (TSA)

Supporting children and parents
during the transition to secondary school

Young People in Focus has long worked to support children and their parents/carers during the move to secondary school. Some recently completed projects include the following:

  • A UK-wide review of projects to provide information and support to parents during their child’s move to secondary school (funded by the Gulbenkian Foundation)
  • Research with parents to identify their needs during their child’s move to secondary school (funded by the Gulbenkian Foundation)
  • An evaluation of the National Pyramid Trust’s programme to support shy, withdrawn and vulnerable children during the move to secondary school (funded by the Department of Health)
  • The development of materials to support children and parents during their child’s move to secondary school – a short ‘magazine style’ resource, and a CD-based resource to enable schools and others to produce newsletters about the transition (funded by the Gulbenkian Foundation)

In addition we continue to run several one day courses each year as part of our open course programme. These enable delegates to hear about the latest information and good practice in relation to the transition, and develop skills and expertise.
