An evaluation of the National Pyramid Trust’s ‘transitions’ project
Background
TSA is currently working on a collaborative project with the National Pyramid Trust (NPT). The NPT provides programmes in primary schools, to support particularly vulnerable children via ‘Pyramid Clubs’.
A new pilot project is currently being run by the NPT in two London boroughs. This project is providing Pyramid Clubs to vulnerable children who are about to make the transition to secondary school. The aim is to provide extra support to those children, identified by parents and teachers, as those likely to find the transition a difficult one. The aim is to support these children in making the transition to secondary school.
The Project
TSA has been contracted by the Department of Health to undertake an evaluation of this important new pilot project.
The evaluation will involve identifying the effects of the project on the children involved. It will involve data collection with the children before and after their involvement in the Pyramid Club programme, as well as after they have transferred to secondary school. We will also collect data on the views and experiences of project workers, parents, and teachers.
Timetable
The project is taking place over 12 months, and will be completed by December 2004.
Project Workers
Julie Shepherd is the main researcher responsible for this project. Dr Debi Roker is the grant holder and project manager.
