Some further information about TSA’s research work, and the staff team, are included here.
YPFs' research team is multidisciplinary, and includes staff with backgrounds in psychology, sociology, geography and education. All of YPFs' research and evaluation activities are designed to inform policy and practice, and to improve the lives of young people. Research is undertaken across all of YPFs' main themes.
Most of the research undertaken is qualitative in nature, using in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and diary methods. We also have experience of more quantitative work, including large-scale surveys. We have extensive experience of undertaking both cross-sectional and longitudinal research. We also have much experience of researching a range of different populations, including accessing those groups who are often considered ‘hard to reach’.
YPFs' research is funded from a range of different sources. Some grants are awarded as a result of a competitive tender, whilst others are awarded as a result of a proactive application, such as to a research funding council. Depending on the size of the grant, we may have a researcher dedicated to one project, or a number of researchers will work on a project. Much of our research is collaborative, working closely with other organisations who are also trying to improve the lives of young people.
All of YPFs' research is applied in nature. The key aim of our research is to influence practice and policy – see the Research Dissemination section for further information about this.
