Young People and the Prevention of Suicide
A one-day training course
This course explores the taboo topic of suicide and its impact on young people, their carers and practitioners. It aims to give practitioners confidence in dealing with an emotive and distressing issue.
It will consider:
- the problem of definition
- trends, including incidence and methods of suicide
- gender, “race” and ethnic differences
- theories of suicide
- recognising risk
- hopelessness, anger and depression
- young people's perspectives
- family and social factors
- helping suicidal young people
- staff support issues, agency policies and procedures
The trainer
Jayne Hellett is Principal Training Co-ordinator (Adolescent Mental Health) for Young People in Focus. She has 27 years of experience in working with young people and as a trainer/consultant. She has worked in Education, Social Services and the voluntary sector.
