Promoting Emotional Well-being in Young People

A one-day training course

Issues and concerns regarding the mental health and psychological well-being of children and young people are increasing for a range of workers who are supporting young people. The incidence of emotional disorders and distress indicate the importance of positively engaging young people and employing strategies that promote their emotional well-being.

This one -day course will explore the factors influencing the mental health of young people and practical ways of promoting their emotional health.

The course covers:

  • the changing influences in society for adolescents today and how this might impact on young people and those who work with them
  • factors that influence good mental health and behaviours that indicate distress
  • developmental stages during adolescence
  • the importance of self-image and self-esteem for young people an dhow workers can contribute to a positive sense of self and personal identity

The course will draw upon practice, research and theory. Above all, it will enable participants to reflect upon their experience and build on their own strengths. It will be set within an anti-discriminatory framework. It will include inputs by the trainer, small and large group discussions, participative exercises and activities.
