Counselling Skills for Non-Counsellors
17 February 2011 (Birmingham)
12 July 2011 (London)
The course is for anyone wanting to build key skills in communicating with and listening to young people. The course will focus on the development of basic counselling skills and how to use them in your work setting. These core skills are the building blocks of any supportive helping relationship. They can help you to build a positive trusting relationship; to respond more effectively to young people in distress and to support them in finding their own solutions. The course is experiential and skills based, with lots of opportunity for practicing the skills and reflecting on their use in your work with young people.
It is appropriate for anyone working directly with young people, including youth workers, housing support staff, health and education staff, learning mentors, Connexions PA’s etc. It is an introductory course but also appropriate for anyone wanting to refresh their skills.
The course covers:
- The role of counselling skills with young people
- What young people need
- Listening and responding to difficult feelings
- Counselling skills practice sessions
- Asking helpful questions
Fees:
Statutory, independent and large voluntary organisations: £155
Individuals and small voluntary organisations: £125
