About Us
Young People in Focus (YPF)
formerly
Trust for the Study of Adolescence (TSA).
Between 1989 and 2011 Young People in Focus (YPF) enabled organisations and individuals to improve the lives of young people and families, by promoting evidence-based practice. We did this through:
- undertaking applied research and evaluating services
- testing new ways of working
- producing publications and other resources
- training professionals
- influencing policy-makers.
YPF’s work took place across the UK and concentrated on issues relevant to the most disadvantaged young people and families. The main topics that we covered were: health and emotional wellbeing; learning and education; parenting and family life; youth social action and participation; and youth justice.
YPF took a positive approach and aimed to challenge the negative portrayal of young people today.
Why we closed
Young People in Focus generated its own income from contracts with public bodies and charities, through grants from a wide range of sources, and via fees from running training, and through the sale of publications.
Unfortunately the 2008/9 recession and the public sector cuts in 2010-11 meant that many of our customers were no longer in a position to commission our services, book places on courses or purchase publications. This led to a dramatic reduction in our income. With much regret, our Board of Trustees had no option but to close the organisation in August 2011.
Everyone involved with Trust for the Study of Adolescence/Young People in Focus over its 22 years would like to thank our very many supporters.
The organisation was created in order to focus on issues related to older children and young people and we are pleased to have played a part in bringing teenagers, young adults and their families closer to central stage.
